Day 1-Early morning depart to travel to Dearborn, Michigan, arriving in early afternoon at the Henry Ford Museum, filled with acres of artifacts that bring American ideas and innovations to life. See the Rosa Parks Bus, the chair in which Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, a 600-ton Allegheny locomotive, and much more. After your visit, head for your lodging in the area. Check in and prepare for dinner, followed by a restful night.
Day 2-Following breakfast, check-out and dart for the nearby Greenfield Village, featuring the sights sounds and sensations of America’s past. See 80 authentic buildings, including Noah Webster’s home and the home of the Wright brothers. Ride an authentic Model T and be a kid again astride a horse on the carousel. Lunch is on your own in the village, then continue traveling to Frankenmuth, Michigan’s “Little Bavaria”. Check into your lodging and enjoy a family-style dinner at Zehnder’s Restaurant.
Day 3-After breakfast, check-out and spend the morning in Frankenuth. Visit Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland and other shops in this fascinating village. Lunch is on your own in Frankenmuth then depart north to your lodging for the next two nights. Dinner isincluded at a local restaurant.
Day 4– Depart for an early ferry ride to Mackinac Island. Upon arrival you will go directly by taxi to the Grand Hotel for a delicious breakfast. a self-guided tour of the common area of the Grand Hotel follows, with an opportunity to view the Straits of Mackinac from a rocking chair on the expansive porch. Board a horse-drawn carriage for a narrated tour of the island. In the afternoon you will have time to explore the area on your own before returning via ferry to the mainland for a delicous barbecue dinner, followed by a couple hours at the Kewadin Shores Casino where you can try your luck.
Day 5-Breakfast, then check-out and depart south across the 5-Mile, Mackinac Bridge into the Lower Peninsula, stopping at the Cross in the Woods-an inspirational, monumental artwork to the resurrected Christ. After your visit and time for reflection, continue south to your lodging in the Dearborn area. Check into your rooms and prepare for dinner and relaxing night.
Day 6-Following breakfast, check-out and depart for a tour of the Ford Rouge Factory. Get a behind-the-scenes view of the factory remarkable internal framework-the complex web of robots, lifts, conveyors, hydraulics, chutes and cranes that make this one of the most envied manufacturing facilities in the world. After your tour, depart for home-taking with you fond memories of your visit to the “mitten state”.
