ITINERARY:
Day 1, Sunday, October 8, 2023 – Take in all the colors of the changing leaves as we travel to the Maine seacoast for a three-night stay. On your route, pass through York, ME, a popular summer resort town on the Gulf of Maine. Enjoy a stop at Stonewall Kitchen’s Company Store, where a welcoming staff will offer complimentary samples of their specialty food items. This quaint store features an abundant line of specialty foods plus useful kitchen gadgets, cookware, tableware, and home décor. The demonstration kitchen staff is often cookin’ up something delicious and is on-hand to share recipes. Get to know your fellow travelers at an included welcome dinner tonight at a local restaurant. (D)

Day 2, Monday, October 9, 2023 – Portland, Maine
After an included breakfast at your hotel, depart for the day in Portland. This morning, we meet our guide for an included city sightseeing tour of Portland, famous for its beautiful coastal region, including lighthouses and lobster fishermen. You will also pass the Wadsworth-Longfellow House, the Portland Observatory, and the Eastern Promenade, with breathtaking views of Casco Bay. Stop at the historic Portland Head Lighthouse, which was commissioned by George Washington. Then travel to Freeport where you will enjoy free time for lunch and explore the famous LL Bean flagship store. Later, visit the Victoria Mansion, a beautiful victorian-syle mansion built between 1858-1860 as a summer home of Ruggles Sylvester Morse and his wife Olive. Enjoy an included dinner in Portland before returning to your hotel for the evening. (B,D)
Day 3, Tuesday, October 10, 2023 – Kennebunkport, Maine
After breakfast, depart for a lovely day in Kennebunkport. Arrive at the docks to board our authentic lobster fishing vessel. Take a Lobster Boat Cruise and become more intimately acquainted with the Maine Lobster. During your lobster boat excursions, not only will you see lobster traps hauled from the sea, but you will learn about the challenging life of a lobster fisherman and have the opportunity to see the rocky Maine Coastline. Afterward, you’ll meet your local guide and enjoy a city sightseeing tour of Kennebunkport to include the summer cottage of Former President Bush and much more. Visit the quaint shops and have a bite to eat at Dock Square in downtown Kennebunkport. Next you will visit the Seashore Trolley Museum, where you can enjoy a trolley ride on an authentically restored streetcar through the Maine countryside. Enjoy an evening with your fellow travelers during your delicious Downeast Maine Lobster Bake. (B,D)
Day 4, Wednesday, October 11, 2023 – New Hampshire & Vermont
Today, you are greeted with picture postcard views of New Hampshire’s charming lakes as you cruise on Lake Winnipesaukee, the largest lake in New Hampshire. Experience the majesty of Lake Winnipesaukee during a narrated scenic tour aboard the historic M/S Mount Washington. Learn about the history of the region and local folklore, surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in New England. Drive along Kancamagus Scenic Byway, renowned for its fall leaf viewing. The “Kanc,” as the locals call it, remains unspoiled by homes or service stations for its entire length. Make a photo stop at the overlook for a stunning view of New Hampshire’s White Mountain range. A drive through White Mountain National Forest brings you to Rock of Ages, the largest deep-hole dimension granite quarry in the world! You will have a narrated tour as your guide shares their passion for all things granite, its history, the area’s cultural heritage, artistry, geology, and more. The quarry is amazing and so are the gorgeous mountain views! (B,D)

Day 5, Thursday, October 12, 2023 – Stowe, Vermont
Depart for a day of pure Vermont! This morning we meet our guide and travel to the Trapp Family Lodge, the famed lodge where the Von Trapp family made their home after leaving their beloved Austria during World War II. The tour begins with an overview of the family history – actual vs. “Sound of Music” movie version, then a discussion of the property’s history and the family’s early years in America. View a documentary film of Maria von Trapp’s memories during her final visit to her former home in Salzburg, Austria. When possible, a Von Trapp family member hosts a Q and A session.
You’ll then head to Ben & Jerry’s very first ice-cream factory where we will have a guided tour of the factory and learn the history of this delicious treat. Enjoy free time on your own in Stowe, Vermont, a charming small town with everything travelers need to build bucket-list-worthy memories with breathtaking scenic views, world-class recreation, unique cultural experiences, and local signature flavors.
Stowe is located at the foot of Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak. In the winter, Mt. Mansfield is home to skiing and snowboarding trails at Stowe Mountain Resort, and in the summer, the resort’s ZipTour Adventure, Gondola SkyRide and Auto Toll Road offer stunning views of the Stowe valley. This afternoon, we enjoy amazing views of Vermont from the Stowe Skyride Gondola.
On the way to dinner this evening, we take a short break at Shelburne Orchard and enjoy a cup of freshly pressed apple cider before dinner. A true maple dinner is served tonight to include maple salad dressing, maple ham, and a maple dessert! YUM! (B,D)
Day 6, Friday, October 13, 2023 – Vermont
We will depart for home after breakfast with a photo-stop at stunning Quechee Gorge, Vermont’s “Little Grand Canyon.” (B)
