Enjoy the warm sunshine and holiday cheer around every corner in Myrtle Beach and Charleston.  During the Christmas season, you’ll notice how every venue, theater, and store gets dressed up for the holidays, featuring twinkling lights and dazzling Christmas décor.  Stroll cobblestone pathways among all the festive lights while sipping warm cider at the James Island Holiday Festival in Charleston.  Spend a few hours of mouthwatering fun touring the culinary side of Charleston on the Restaurant Foodie Tour. Explore historic homes and slave cabins, and learn of the area’s rich history at Hopsewee Plantation.  Enjoy the wonderful and festive spirit of Christmas with music, comedy, and dance.  From huge community celebrations and unique festivals to live music, concerts, and much more, spending the holidays in the South will surely make your heart sing.

ITINERARY:

Day 1 – Sunday, December 1, 2024

Early morning departure with meal and rest stops along the way.

Dinner this evening is included at Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen in Myrtle Beach. Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen offers guests classic Deen Family recipes, such as Southern-Style entrees, delicious side dishes, and mouth-watering desserts in a family-style setting. 

Check-in at the Coral Beach Resort & Suites, 1105 South Ocean Blvd. Myrtle Beach, in a 1-Bedroom Oceanfront Suite.

Day 2 – Monday, December 2, 2024

Full breakfast included in the Sea Level Restaurant in the Coral Beach Resort.

Your day is free to do as you please.  Take time to relax and enjoy the amenities at the resort or take a stroll on the beach or you may opt for a trip to visit Myrtle Beach’s newest attraction – Broadway at the Beach.  During your free time at Broadway at the Beach, don’t miss your chance to check out the Festival of Trees at Ripley’s Aquarium with unique holiday trees representing all 50 states. (lunch on your own, transportation provided).

Dinner tonight is included at Joe’s Bar & Grill, a staple of Myrtle Beach for over 30 years, and has the look and feel of a cozy, upscale hunting cabin, featuring a fireplace, a quaint bar, and a deck overlooking the saltwater marsh.

Celebrate the holidays in Myrtle Beach tonight with the Alabama Theatre’s award-winning production, “The South’s Grandest Christmas Show.”  This year’s Christmas extravaganza brings an incredible combination of talent, scenery, and special effects to the Grand Strand to produce a spectacular new holiday musical.

Day 3 – Tuesday, December 3, 2024

Full breakfast is included in the Sea Level Restaurant in the Coral Beach Resort.

Today we depart Myrtle Beach for Charleston, SC.  Upon arrival, you will partake in a Historic-Holiday Foodie Tour of Charleston.  Bring your appetite for this tasty, guided, walking tour of downtown Charleston.  You’ll spend a few hours of mouthwatering fun touring the culinary side of the Holy City, learning about the history of the city as you dine at four local restaurants. 

Afterward, enjoy a Driving Tour of Charleston with a visit to the Aiken-Rhett House Museum.  Drive by some of the city’s oldest preserved architecture and view the historic Charleston promenade, The Battery, and many other stunning attractions. Later, tour the Aiken-Rhett House Museum where you will see the dazzling trimmings of a Victorian Christmas in the Low-Country. Holiday celebrations at the Aiken-Rhett House date back to Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and the budding popularity of decorated trees in America. Christmas was a joyous time for members of the enslaved community as well, and interpretive material will be exhibited in the Aiken-Rhett House outbuildings, where these African Americans both lived and worked.

Stop at the Old City Market for free time and browsing.  Established in the 1790s, this historic landmark is one of the oldest public markets in the U.S. There’s everything from handmade crafts, trinkets, and jewelry to the nation’s most prized souvenir—the woven sweetgrass basket.

Dinner is included this evening at the Charleston Crab House on James IslandEnjoy waterfront dining with exceptional cuisine and spectacular harbor views.

Admission is included to the James Island Holiday Festival of Lights at James Island County Park. This vibrant light show is one of Charleston’s most cherished holiday events featuring an estimated two million dazzling lights and over 750 light displays.  In addition to the driving tour through the Festival of Lights, enjoy free time to explore the many wondrous Christmas attractions available inside the park: marshmallow roasting, festival Train Rides, Enchanted Walking Trail, Old-Fashioned Carousel, Santa’s Sweet Shoppe, gift shops, and more.

Day 4 – Wednesday, December 4, 2024

Your day is free to do as you please.  Take time to relax and enjoy the amenities at the resort or take a stroll on the beach or you may opt for a trip to visit Myrtle Beach Boardwalk Entertainment District. Along with 1.2 miles of walkable boardwalk, the downtown Myrtle Beach area is home to tons of great shops, restaurants, hotels, rides, attractions, and entertainment. The centerpiece of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel offering panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Standing 200 feet above the ocean, the SkyWheel features 42 climate-controlled, enclosed gondolas. (lunch on your own, transportation provided)

This evening, dinner is included at the Carolina Roadhouse before we arrive at the Carolina Opry.  The Carolina Opry Christmas Special, often called “The Christmas Show of the South”, will open its 36th season of enchanting holiday performances this year.  This show brings the warm, wonderful, and fun spirit of Christmas to life with music, comedy, and dance.  With highly acclaimed singers, cloggers, and musicians, this is a show not to be missed!

Day 5 – Thursday, December 5, 2024

Full breakfast is included in the Sea Level Restaurant in the Coral Beach Resort.

Today we depart for more festive fun and touring.  Enjoy a visit to the Hopsewee Plantation. Built circa 1740, some 40 years before the American Revolutionary War, Hopsewee Plantation was one of the South’s major rice plantations and the birthplace of Thomas Lynch, Jr., one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.  Explore the historic home and slave cabins, and learn about the rich history of Hopsewee, its previous families as well as its current owners, the Beatties, and the slaves who lived and worked on the plantation.  During your visit, make sure to enjoy the mossy oaks and river vista. 

Following the tour, we will have a Southern Tea at Hopsewee Plantation, complete with finger sandwiches, scones, and cakes!

Afterward, enjoy a stop at Pawley’s Island Hammock Shops Village for a little holiday shopping.  This shopping village, surrounded by ancient live oaks and beautiful gardens, boasts over 20 specialty shops, boutiques, and restaurants offering a unique shopping experience.

Depart for a “Night of a Thousand Candles” at Brookgreen Gardens.  Every holiday season, for over twenty years, Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet has turned into an illuminated holiday wonder. During their “Night of a Thousand Candles” event, the gardens spark to life each evening from the glow of more than 2,700 hand-lit candles and countless sparkling lights. Visitors can stroll the pathways among all the twinkling of the festive lights while sipping on a cup of warm cider.  During your walk, enjoy a soundtrack of holiday music and live carolers.  You won’t want to miss the “Lighting of the Trees” at the Leonard Pavilion.

Day 6 – Friday, December 6, 2024

Full breakfast is included in the Sea Level Restaurant in the Coral Beach Resort.

Check-out and depart for home with meal and rest stops along the way. Arrival at Trustworthy Travel is approximately 8:00 PM.
