ITINERARY:

Day 1, Sunday, September 22, 2024         (D)

5:15 AM              Depart Mifflin County Library, Lewistown

6:00 AM              Depart from Mifflintown, PA.

6:20 AM              Depart Newport Park-n- Ride, Newport

6:40 AM              Depart Dauphin Park-n-Ride, Dauphin

Meal and rest stops along the way. This evening we arrive and check in at the Hampton Inn West Yarmouth, MA.

Hotel: Hampton Inn West Yarmouth, Massachusetts. The Hampton Inn & Suites Cape Cod/West Yarmouth is a 3-star, beautifully designed hotel and is the first new hotel on Cape Cod in over twenty years. The hotel offers complimentary high-speed internet access, an indoor and outdoor pool, and a Whirlpool-Spa. Room features include a handy coffeemaker, microwave, and refrigerator.

Day 2, Monday, September 23, 2024       (B, D)                   WHALE WATCH or DUNE TOUR

Enjoy an included breakfast in the main dining room.

This morning, we depart with your local guide for a full day of touring. Travel Olde King’s Highway dotted with historic Cape Cod architecture and New England Inns.  Our routing takes us to the tip of the Cape. See famous lighthouses, historic Windmills, the giant dunes of Truro and the Pristine Province lands.

Later, we have a visit to the Cape Cod Seashore Salt Pond Visitors Center. The Visitor Center focuses on the interesting natural history of this unique area.

Arrive and check in as a group for your Whale Watch or Sand Dune Tour near Provincetown.

You have a choice today to go on a 3-4 hour Whale Watch or a 1-hour Sand Dune Tour.

A) Your Whale Watch is about to begin from Provincetown, MA! This adventure can last between 3-4 hours where you may view the great whales of the North Atlantic. On a regular day, marine mammal sightings include; Humpback, Finback, Minke, and Right and Pilot Whales. Your professional marine biologist provides an informative description of the whales you’re likely to see. Enjoy the cruise on one of two open decks or in the climate-controlled cabin. Galley food & beverages service is available. Afterward, enjoy Free Time in Provincetown, home to forty miles of beautiful beaches, three miles of art galleries, peculiar souvenir shops, unrivaled restaurants, and captivating architecture.

B) The one-hour Sand Dune Tour is held on private pristine land in enclosed jeeps and led by naturalists filled with information about the history of the area and the marine life that inhabit it. Then spend extra time in Provincetown to have lunch or browse the many museums and shops there.

Tonight we enjoy a full lobster dinner at a classic seafood restaurant!       

Day 3, Tuesday, September 24, 2024       (B, D)              MARTHA’S VINEYARD

Enjoy an included breakfast in the main dining room.

Depart with your local guide from Woods Hole Harbor by ferry, for the “Storybook Island” of Martha’s Vineyard. Enjoy a driving tour of Martha’s Vineyard.

Enjoy lunch on your own with time to enjoy Edgartown. This might be the perfect time to try the iconic New England Lobster Roll! Edgartown is filled with many shops, eateries, attractions, and extraordinary views of the Atlantic.

Next, we will board our bus for a visit to Oak Bluffs where you will walk through the famous Gingerbread House Village. You will also see the Island Tabernacle and Antique Carousel before leaving the island.

Later this afternoon, we will depart on the Ferry from Martha’s Vineyard to the mainland and enjoy an included dinner tonight.

Day 4, Wednesday, September 25, 2024        (B,D)                   HYANNIS & SANDWICH

Enjoy an included breakfast in the main dining room.

This morning we will enjoy a Tour of a Cranberry Bog and witness the fall cranberry harvest in progress. This is their most popular tour period – a cranberry harvest is something to see! The tours are 60-90 minutes long where we will be brought up close to the wet harvest to see floating berries in one or more of the various harvest stages which can include picking, racking, or loading. Due to the nature of the harvest, we cannot guarantee which stage will be shown on any given day.

Afterward, we travel to Hyannis and enjoy free time for lunch and exploring. The town is best known as the presidential getaway for the Kennedy clan who spent any available downtime at the family compound in Hyannis Port. Browse the quaint shops, take photos of the historic monuments that grace the walkways, or relax and enjoy the quiet atmosphere of this beautiful seaside town.

This afternoon, your local guide will take us on a driving tour of Hyannis. We will visit the Korean War Memorial, the Kennedy Memorial (pictured to the left), St. Francis Xavier’s Church where JFK and Jackie were wed, and view the Hyannisport neighborhood of the Kennedy Compound.

This afternoon we will depart for a 1-hour Hyannis Harbor Scenic Cruise. A sightseeing cruise on Lewis Bay is a great way to get on the water for an hour and enjoy all of the beautiful historic and natural landmarks in the area. Just a few of the points of interest are Point Gammon Lighthouse, Saint Andrews by the Sea, Squaw Island, Kalmus Beach, the Kennedy Memorial, and the highlight of the cruise: the Kennedy Compound offering a great view from the water.

Dinner is included this evening at a local favorite.

Day 5, Thursday, September 26, 2024             (B,D)                   PLYMOUTH & SALEM

Enjoy an included breakfast in the main dining room and check-out.

Depart the hotel and begin the drive toward Salem.

Our group will stop in Plymouth, MA.  Here you have free time to view Plymouth Rock, the traditional site of disembarkation of the Pilgrims in 1620; the Mayflower, a life-size replica of the ship that carried the Pilgrims from England to Plymouth; and the Forefathers Monument, the largest solid granite monument in the U.S.  Afterward, we continue our journey to Salem.

We arrive in Salem in time for lunch and free time to explore on our own.

Later, we meet up and depart for a narrated Trolley Tour of Salem, the best way to see Salem and experience the Witch City’s unique and colorful past.  The Salem Trolley provides visitors with a narrated one-hour tour to explore Salem’s witchcraft trials of 1692, or travel beyond the witchcraft hysteria into the fascinating realm of Salem’s literary and maritime history. The eight-mile ride around the city takes you past the Charter Street Burial Ground, the House of the Seven Gables, Witch Dungeon Museum, Salem Witch Museum, the historic waterfront area, and other locations, including Chestnut Street considered to be one of the most beautiful streets in America.

Afterward, we will tour the House of Seven Gables, best known as the home of world-renowned American author Nathaniel Hawthorne, one of the world’s most studied authors for his works in “The Scarlet Letter” (1850) and “The House of the Seven Gables” (1851). Learn about four centuries of inclusive history at one of America’s most beloved historic homes.

Later we visit the Salem Witch Museum, which examines one of the most enduring and emotional events in American History, the Salem witch trials of 1692. Take an immersive look into the events of 1692 where visitors experience the drama of that dark time through thirteen life-size stage sets, figures, lighting, and narration as they are witness to the web of lies and intrigue of the Salem witch-hunt.

Afterward, we will check into our hotel accommodations for one night: Hampton Inn in Peabody, MA.

Day 6, Friday, September 27, 2024                       (B)                   MARK TWAIN HOUSE

On our way home we stop for a visit at the Mark Twain House in Hartford, Connecticut, a three-story, 25-room Victorian mansion where Mark Twain (Samuel Clemmons) lived and wrote from 1874-1891. Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and other classics were penned while author Samuel Clemmons resided here. The castle-like home features many rare Tiffany pieces and Clemmons memorabilia along with inspiring architecture and gorgeous interior design. This is the place to learn about the work and the life of Samuel Clemens and to see Victorian high-style architecture at its best.

We begin our journey home with meal and rest stops along the way.                                                             Late evening arrival home.
